hi, hello. ✨
i was recently watching growing floret + one of the founders, erin, begins the show by asking a simple question: what is your first memory of flowers?
knowing how much i love flowers, jared turned to me + asked the question. i thought about it for a few moments. i couldn’t quite remember a specific moment.
and then it hit me: my grandma gracie’s sunflowers. 🌻
they were planted by her front porch. i remember the sunflowers being the size of my head and eight feet tall - but i was a kid, so that may not be super accurate. but what my memory does recall is their ever-present existence during the late summers in oklahoma.
as i reminisced on the flowers of my childhood, a realization hit me so hard that i could not stop the tears: the love language of flowers between the Lord + i began long before i realized.
it’s an understanding so deep i can hardly fathom, yet it makes perfect sense how God has used flowers throughout my life to remind me He is with me. from a young age, He used flowers to show me His goodness + His faithfulness. He is a God of details + it makes flowers all the more special to me now.
🌺 random flower memories:
when a boy broke my heart into pieces in my early twenties, i channeled that hurt into photography, which turned into a love of photographing flowers. this led to made solo photo walks where i would pray + talk to God as i ventured along. 🌸
peonies make me think of my (other) grandma, because she would clip + bring them for my mom + i to have on our desks at work. the flowers would inevitably be filled with ants, which crawled all over our papers for days. crepe myrtles also make me think of her, because she pulled over in a random parking lot in tulsa, just so i could snap a few photos. 💐
we bought a new house weeks after jackson was born. i have been open about my struggles in early motherhood, but i have fond memories of that house because the previous owner had a wonderful green thumb. the day we moved in, there were roses blooming in the front yard. over the course of our short time there, several flowers bloomed + it was a tiny glimmer of hope. 🌹
just recently, my SIL drove me around our neighborhood to show me the dozens of flowers the city planted in our local park. my people know me + it makes me smile so much. 🌼
