hi, hello.
our church had an event at a local sports place earlier this month. i had every intention of playing it safe. sitting on the sidelines. “i’ll just watch, thanks.” but at the last second, i changed my mind. partly because i knew jackson would love it, and partly because - well, i’m not entirely sure why.
i traded my sandals for trampoline socks. my phone for time with others. my comfort for actual fun.
i jumped on the trampolines with my boy. i participated in sand volleyball with our friends. (notice i said “participated” because i am not athletic. i am competitive though, so i can come off as athletic, but i am not, lol. did i serve the game-winning point? yes. did i squeal every time the ball came in my vicinity? also yes.)
as i walked through the parking lot to my car that evening, i felt lighter. not just from the endorphins of activity, but also from actually engaging. i walked in those doors prepared to sit there + maybe grumble to a friend, but i am so glad i chose differently.
the local church is vital to a life of deep faith. instagram is not your church. christian influencers are not pastors. you can sit on the sidelines (“i’ll just watch online, thanks”), but you’ll miss the community we all need + crave.
lyrics i have been praying-
shake up the ground of all my tradition. break down the walls of all my religion. Your way is better.
